Dr. Zarb Adami is a surgeon who through her background in plastic surgery has extensive experience in earlobe repair surgery as one of the many services provided by the London clinic, Aesthetic Virtue. Dr. Zarb Adami has performed hundreds of earlobe repairs with excellent results.
Earlobe Repair treatments offer a relatively quick and painless method of correcting the damage to your earlobes. The final result is usually a thin neat linear scar which generally fades away with time.
Most people can go back to work straight after the procedure, although you may need to take a short break if you work in a dusty or dirty environment, or your job involves strenuous exercise. For those in cosmetically sensitive jobs, it is worth noting that the stitches will be visible for the first week.
The price of your earlobe repair treatment includes ear re-piercing a minimum of three months after your operation. Although ear piercing is possible after six weeks, it is not something that we would advise. If you do decide to have your ears re-pierced (preferably at least three to six months after surgery), we would recommend that you start with small stud earrings as repaired earlobes are weaker than uninjured earlobes. If you go back to wearing heavy earrings, you should be aware that the problem may occur again.
It typically takes around 20 minutes per lobe to repair a split earlobe and the procedure is usually carried out under local anaesthetic with a minimal level of discomfort experienced by the patient. The torn skin edges are excised in a V-shaped pattern and the fresh edges are then stitched together with sutures that need to remain in place for about a week. No dressing is needed other than an antibiotic ointment.
When considering this type of surgery, you should discuss the procedure carefully with your doctor to gain a full understanding of what can and can’t be accomplished. Your doctor will discuss you post-operative care with you in detail.
Split earlobe repair: £350 per earlobe
Enlarged earlobe repair: £500 per earlobe

I have just undergone a surgical procedure. How should I now look after the wound so as to have the best scar possible?
It is imperative to keep the area clean at all times to avoid infections. Avoid excessive movement or strain in the area. When exposed to sunlight, scar tissue tends to take up pigment differently to normal skin. Therefore, it is important to keep the area covered, or if on the face to use sun protection at all times (minimum SPF 30), as otherwise the resulting scar may be more obvious as it may be paler or darker than the surrounding skin.
Very often, in the first 6 weeks following a procedure, it is normal for the scar to be slightly red and raised. Two weeks following the procedure or following removal of sutures (if used) it is recommended to massage the scar using Vitamin E cream, or Manuka honey. This will flatten the scar.
A scar takes up to 18 months to mature to its final appearance. During this time, care for the scar should be optimised.
Can my ear split again?
Yes it is always possible for your ear to split again, as scar tissue is only 80% as strong as normal skin. That is why we advise ear re-piercing after a minimum wait of three months post-operatively and why we insist on re-piercing the repaired earlobe ourselves at Aesthetic Virtue. This is because we create the new piercing immediately adjacent to the scar, not directly through it.
Re splitting is commonest in the initial phases of recovery, therefore it is wise to handle the earlobe with care (especially when putting on and removing clothes. WE suggest that small stud earring are worn when the ear is re-pierced, as long heavy dangly earrings may increase the chance of the earlobe splitting again
Is the procedure very painful?
No. This is because we inject the area to be operated with a small amount of local anesthetic, thus rendering the procedure painless.
How do I look after the repaired earlobe?
Following the procedure, you will be given an antibiotic cream to put over the stitches. The area should be kept clean and this should be applied three times a day. If the stitches get crusty, they can be cleaned with lukewarm boiled water and a piece of cotton wool. It is advisable to keep the treated area dry.

All my questions were addressed, treatment options, outcomes, potential side effects and after-care instructions were very clear. And the procedure was far less painful than I had imagined!
A gentle hand… you might have very possibly cured my needle-phobia finally! And thank goodness, as everybody thinks I'm looking younger and fresher now!
A clinic that insists on natural results! Fabulous! Now I'm loving the compliments.
Dr Raina has been my doctor for the last 18 months, and she will be for many months longer.
Recently my 20 year old daughter (who has beautiful full lips) told me she wanted to get her lips enlarged and that she had already spoken to another doctor about it, who was willing to do it for her. I took her along with me to discuss it with Dr Raina who explained to her that her natural lips are very nice and in proportion with the rest of her face. She mentioned that more volume will ruin the proportions and she would look 'done'. We are both very grateful for the honesty there.
A very professional, honest and straightforward doctor with surgical skills to match! My right earlobe split 6 years ago, and I was too anxious to have it repaired.
Now, I have no idea why I didn't get it done sooner!
After discussing the pros and cons of removing the mole on my face, I finally underwent the procedure. Three months on, I am very pleased with the result. I appreciate the no frills honesty and straightforwardness.
Highly professional… I will certainly be recommending you!
