A tan (fake tan or real tanning secondary to sun or sun-bed exposure) is to be avoided at all costs for a few weeks before and after the treatment, as this will increase the risk of burning. It is very important to let your therapist know if you're not sure.
The hairs will fall out of their own accord after a few days. Any hair growth after that will be new hair (in a different stage of the hair cycle – hence the need for multiple treatments).
Very rarely, the treatment might not be as effective as it usually is in most individuals.
Avoid hot baths, showers, saunas or swimming for at least 24 hours.
Do not apply, make-up or lotions to the area treated for 24 hours.
Avoid sun exposure or sun-beds for at least three weeks (and avoid the sun for 6 weeks prior to a treatment).
Avoid other medical or cosmetic treatments to the same area for 2 weeks.
Tanned skins (secondary to sun or sun-bed exposure)
Fake tan
The concurrent use of photosensitive medications
Photosensitive skin conditions
Tattoos or permanent make-up on the areas to be treated
Active skin conditions in the area to be treated
Koebnerizing skin conditions (such as psoriasis or vitiligo where the skin condition may develop where skin trauma or irritation occurs)
A history of skin cancer
Some forms of epilepsy
Pregnancy and breast-feeding (although the treatment is safe, no studies have been carried out on its effects on pregnancy so it is advised to wait until the first check up after birth).
Because the laser targets the pigment in the hair follicle, the effect can be reduced on red hair, and may not work on grey or white hair.
