What does the procedure consist of?
This is a very brief and relatively painless procedure. The area to be treated is cleaned using an alcohol wipe and numbing cream is applied to the area for a few minutes. The steroid is then injected in to the base of the keloid using a multi-puncture technique.
What is the after-care procedure?
We advise you to keep the area clean, but other than that there is no specific care.
How soon will I start to notice an improvement in the scar?
A significant number of patient report an improvement in itching and in the appearance of the scar following the first treatment. Typically results are manifest following the 3rd treatment.
How many treatments are needed? And how frequently?
A minimum of 6 treatments are needed at intervals of 6 to 8 weeks.
